Dr. Fryer MD, MS, MHPE is the Richard H Young Professor of Surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He obtained his MD and completed his general surgery residency training at University of Manitoba in Canada and subsequently completed transplant surgery fellowship training at University of Minnesota. He accepted a faculty position in the Department of Surgery at Northwestern University in 1995 where under the mentorship of Debra DaRosa he obtained a Masters in Health Professionals Education (MHPE) from the University of Illinois. He has previously served as the residency program director for general surgery and currently serves as the vice chair of surgery for education and the director of liver transplantation at Northwestern. His current research interests focus on progressive operative autonomy and enhancing learning and teaching in the operating room.
