Dr. Brian George is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Acute Care Surgery, Section of General Surgery, at the University of Michigan. He is also the co-founder of SIMPL: Society for Improving Medical Professional Learning.
Dr. George received his BSE in Engineering Physics at the University of Michigan and worked for over 10 years as an artificial intelligence research engineer, web application architect, and educational technology executive. He then obtained his MD from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine with an Area of Concentration in Medical Educaion. He went on to complete his surgical residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital. During his residency he also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Surgical Education Research at Northwestern University, a post-doctoral fellowship in Surgical Education and Leadership at the American College of Surgeons, and a Masters of Education at the University of California Berkeley. He completed his Trauma/Critical Care fellowship at the University of Washington’s Harborview Medical Center prior to joining the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2016.
Dr. George is dedicated to improving the quality of the physician workforce through performance measurement, educational innovation, and evidence-based policy. He has co-edited a textbook for medical students, teaches nationally on topics related to surgical education, and has won numerous local and national teaching awards.
